Willow Smith: Too Much Too Fast?

Watch your back Rihanna, because there’s a new R’n’B starlet set to take over…

Yes, Willow Smith has arrived- and she’s flicking her hair all up in your face with her debut single ‘Whip My Hair’.

The 9-year-old has made a major impression on the music industry since she released the track- funded by Jay-Z’s Roc Nation record label.

However, it’s led to many questioning whether it’s right for such a young girl to be acting like an adult in such a crazy industry.

Mr ‘Jiggaman’ himself defended the youngster in an interview with Ryan Seacrest saying:

“She has a child's innocence but she has a clear vision of who she is and who she wants to be. I can only imagine that's how Mike [Michael Jackson] was as a young kid, he knew exactly what he wanted. When you have that sort of talent, there is no such thing as too young.”

Of course we all know how well that worked out for Michael… (hmm)

There’s no doubt that the track is an absolute TUNE and that she’s definitely got that star quality, but is nine years old just too young? Is she being exploited?

Or is she just having a laughing flicking her hair around and making Rihanna and co. look like grannies?

I think it’s probably a bit of both- yeh she is too young, but she’s probably having a proper laugh too. I mean, the average life of a 9-year-old isn’t what you’d call exciting- at least this girls going to have some serious banter for the playground.

And plus, who wouldn’t feel a bit of pressure when your brother at 12-years-old is already lording it up in Hollywood? Of course it’s a tad more extreme that the usual sibling rivalry of ‘Who got the most GSCE”s?’, but hey, this is the Smiths we’re talking about here.

The thing is, she was in the limelight anyway due to Will and Jada, so she might as well be doing something worthwhile to get her celeb status- unlike ‘It Girls’ such as Paris bloody Hilton who feed of their family’s fame.

Obviously it wouldn’t have hurt to have waited a few years, but from my experience, if a kid is told not to do something- they want it much more.

Hopefully the fact that she has her parents’ knowledge and support will mean she won’t turn into the mess that is Lindsay Lohan and grow up with her feet firmly on the ground- even if she is whipping her hair all over the place.
